U.S. Secures Access to Ukraine’s Rare Earth Minerals in New Strategic Deal
By Favoredjane
The U.S. and Ukraine have signed a major new agreement granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s vast reserves of rare earth minerals, resources vital to technology and defense industries. The deal, finalized Wednesday, comes amid ongoing concerns about whether President Donald Trump will sustain military support for Kyiv in its war with Russia.
Called the United States-Ukraine Reinvestment Fund, the deal is expected to deepen economic ties while giving Ukraine some security that U.S. backing will continue, even as Trump pushes for a peace deal with Moscow.
“This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
While details remain limited, officials described the deal as a long-term partnership linking U.S. investment to Ukraine’s recovery and access to strategically important materials. Rare earth elements are crucial in producing everything from smartphones to missiles, and Ukraine’s deposits are considered among the richest in Europe.
The agreement follows a previously stalled attempt at a similar deal and comes at a sensitive point in the three-year-old war, with Trump expressing growing frustration over the conflict.
