TotalEnergies to Power 100,000 UK Homes with New Solar and Battery Projects

TotalEnergies has announced the acquisition of a major renewable energy portfolio from Low Carbon, consisting of eight solar power projects with a combined capacity of 350 

Located in southern England, the projects are in advanced stages of development and will significantly expand TotalEnergies’ renewable footprint in the UK. The acquisition MW and two battery storage projects totaling 85 MW. Once operational by 2028, the projects are expected to generate over 350 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 100,000 UK households.complements the company’s existing energy portfolio, which includes 1.1 GW of gross installed offshore wind capacity, 1.3 GW of combined-cycle gas generation, and more than 600 MW of solar projects currently under development.

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies, emphasized the strategic value of the acquisition: “This addition strengthens our integrated power strategy in the UK and reinforces our position as a major player in the country’s energy transition.” The inclusion of battery storage also enhances grid reliability by enabling better management of energy supply during periods of high demand or low solar output.

Roy Bedlow, Chief Executive of Low Carbon, highlighted the broader impact of the projects, noting that they will contribute directly to the UK government’s Clean Power 2030 target. “These projects demonstrate the strength of our development pipeline and our commitment to delivering high-quality renewable infrastructure at scale,” he said.

While TotalEnergies shares saw a modest dip following the announcement, the long-term implications of the acquisition reflect the company’s ongoing transformation into a global multi-energy provider. The transaction is a clear indication of TotalEnergies’ strategy to align its growth with the global shift toward sustainable energy solutions.
