Gateley Announces Significant Round of Promotions at Birmingham Headquarters

Gateley has announced a substantial round of promotions at its Birmingham head office, marking a key milestone in the firm’s continued investment in talent development. A total of 18 team members have stepped into new roles across a variety of legal and professional disciplines, reinforcing Gateley’s commitment to internal progression and long-term growth.

Leading the round is commercial dispute resolution lawyer Kate Canning, who has been promoted to partner. Her appointment reflects her significant contribution to the firm’s dispute resolution practice and her leadership within the Birmingham office. In addition, Jo Dugdale and David Williams (tax), Jonathan Cree (residential development), and Emma Styles (construction) have all been appointed as legal directors, while Harriet Eden has taken on the role of legal director and professional support lawyer.

Further strengthening the firm’s mid-level expertise, Tammi Broad (tax), Daniel Packer (real estate), and Sadie Rice (regulatory and business defence) have been promoted to senior associate. These appointments reflect both technical excellence and a strong track record of client service.

Eight solicitors have been promoted to associate, representing a wide range of practice areas. These include Amy Ellis and Kim Strachan (corporate), Sarah Morris (commercial dispute resolution), Chantal Marsh (construction), and Charlotte Weston, James Coupland, Sultana Begum, and Rebecca Green (residential development). The breadth of these promotions highlights the strength and depth of talent across Gateley’s Birmingham-based teams.

In addition to legal promotions, Gateley Hamer, the firm’s property consultancy arm, has appointed Ben Caldwell as a director. A chartered surveyor with over 14 years of experience in the utility sector, Mr Caldwell has advised 18 of the UK’s top 20 housing developers on navigating development challenges involving utility apparatus.

These promotions are part of a wider round of 73 announced across Gateley’s UK offices, including nine new partners. Rebecca Sherwin, partner and head of Gateley’s Birmingham office, commented:

“For more than 200 years, Birmingham has been the home of Gateley, and we are proud to see so much exceptional talent continuing to grow within the firm. These promotions are a testament to the dedication and high performance of our people, and we look forward to supporting them as they progress in their careers.”
