European logistics giant VGP has made its first entry into the UK
Market with the acquisition of a major industrial site in the East Midlands, signalling its strategic expansion into one of the UK’s most important logistics regions. The 176,000-square-metre plot, named VGP Park East Midlands, offers development potential for approximately 78,000 square metres of logistics space across four buildings. The site benefits from excellent connectivity, located just north of Junction 24 on the M1 motorway and close to East Midlands Airport, a critical hub for freight and distribution.
VGP, founded in 1998 in Belgium and now operating across 18 European countries, manages a portfolio valued at €7.8 billion. The company’s strategy focuses on acquiring land close to major cities and transport corridors to meet rising demand for modern logistics facilities.
Previously owned by Newlands Development, the site had been earmarked for a large-scale industrial project with established planning consent. VGP is expected to begin construction in Q3 2025, responding to strong market demand driven by e-commerce growth and evolving supply chain needs.
The East Midlands is widely regarded as the UK’s logistics heartland due to its central location and infrastructure advantages. VGP’s entry is likely to reinforce the region’s status, contributing to its ongoing development as a key logistics hub in both the UK and broader European markets.
