Cornish Metals Secures £4.19M Grant to Propel South Crofty Tin Project Forward

Cornish Metals Inc. (AIM/TSX-V: CUSN) has announced a significant milestone in the development of its South Crofty Tin Project with the securing of a £4.19 million grant from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme. This funding, which is part of the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), will cover 62% of the £6.8 million cost to develop essential infrastructure at the Bartles Foundry site, marking a pivotal step toward the mine’s revitalization.

The grant will be used to build modern workshops, storage facilities, and office spaces on a 4.5-acre site recently purchased from Cornwall Council. These facilities are critical to the next phase of South Crofty’s underground development, which has already received conditional planning approval in January 2025. The funding follows a 2024 study funded by the SPF, which confirmed the site’s suitability for development.

Don Turvey, CEO of Cornish Metals, expressed his enthusiasm: “This grant represents a key development in the advancement of South Crofty and is a testament to the continued support from local and regional stakeholders. Alongside earlier investments, including the UK National Wealth Fund, it positions the project for success as we move toward production and provide long-term employment opportunities for the local community.”

The South Crofty project is poised to become the only primary tin producer in Europe and North America regions currently heavily reliant on imports from countries like China, Myanmar, and Indonesia. With tin classified as a Critical Mineral by the UK, US, and Canadian governments, the project’s strategic importance cannot be overstated. Tin plays an essential role in the manufacture of electronics, renewable energy technologies, and infrastructure.

Cllr Tim Dwelly, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Investment, emphasized the project’s importance not only for Cornwall but for the UK’s long-term resource security: “South Crofty is crucial to Cornwall’s economic future. This project will create high-quality, well-paid jobs and play an integral role in securing the UK’s supply of a vital resource for modern industries.”

With the Bartles Foundry project now set to move forward, Cornish Metals is on track to transform South Crofty into a state-of-the-art operation that blends Cornwall’s mining heritage with innovative, sustainable practices. The success of this project will benefit the local community, the UK’s industrial sector, and the global supply chain for critical minerals.
