Roger Bullivant Advances Sustainable Foundations at Balderton Rise

Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL), a leading specialist in foundation engineering, is making significant progress on the Balderton Rise residential development in Newark. Working in collaboration with housing provider Lovell, the company is delivering advanced precast foundation solutions for 102 new homes, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and construction efficiency.

Central to the project are over 1,200 Driven Precast Concrete Piles, supported by more than 4,200 metres of RBL’s proprietary RBeam ground beam system. These systems are manufactured using a low-carbon concrete mix that incorporates 50% Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS), significantly reducing embodied carbon. The use of segmental piles also minimises on-site waste, aligning with modern construction practices.

The site’s variable ground conditions comprising Made Ground, Sand and Gravel overlying shallow Mudstone strata make driven precast piles the most suitable solution. This approach eliminates the need for in-situ concrete pours, reduces spoil generation, and ensures optimal performance in challenging soil profiles.

RBL’s streamlined construction process is delivering strong productivity, with piling operations achieving high daily outputs using a single rig. The efficient installation of the RBeam system is supporting Lovell’s phased delivery programme, maintaining momentum across all stages of the development.

Nathan Sale, Pre-Construction Manager at RBL, commented: “Our work at Balderton Rise highlights the technical and environmental benefits of our precast foundation systems. The solution has been tailored to site conditions while supporting the client’s programme objectives and sustainability goals.”

As Balderton Rise progresses, the development stands as a strong example of how innovative engineering and responsible construction practices can deliver high-quality housing solutions in a timely and environmentally conscious manner.
