Camelot Theme Park to Rise Again, As a Village
After 12 years of decay, the once-magical Camelot theme park in Lancashire could soon be reborn, not as a land of knights and jousts, but as a 350-home village.
Story Homes has submitted a new proposal to transform the long-abandoned 140-acre site near Chorley, once a beloved medieval-themed attraction, into a residential community with homes, green spaces, and a community hub. The developers claim the project will blend with the surrounding landscape and include sustainable transport options and habitat protection.
Camelot closed its gates in 2012 after nearly 30 years of entertaining families with King Arthur-inspired rides and live jousts. Since then, the site has become a ghost town of rusting roller coasters and eerie canopies, only occasionally used for zombie-themed events.
While previous plans have been rejected over greenbelt concerns and infrastructure limits, this bold new proposal marks the most ambitious yet. Story Homes is currently awaiting a screening opinion from Chorley Borough Council to determine if an environmental impact assessment is needed before submitting a full application.
If approved, it could mark the end of an era, and the beginning of a new community rising from the ruins of a legend
